Doug has been an artist and a genre geek for as long as he can remember. LACon was his first introduction to true fandom, and he was hooked. He displayed his art there for the first time and actually sold a few pieces, which he would dearly love to find and have destroyed.
His love is ink and watercolor and during the 70’s he contributed hundreds of pieces of art to fanzines, mostly Trek and comics zines, though some SF zines as well. He was listed as a contributing artist on the masthead to The Comics Journal for almost a decade. He has attended at least one major SF convention a year since, usually a whole lot more, and always loves to display his art. To see examples of his work, check out www.douglasherring.com.
He worked as an artist/art director in the computer games industry for fifteen years, between 1988 and 2003, most notably with Sierra On-Line and Microsoft, working happily on mostly genre titles. Prior to that he was an art director at a television station in Northern California. He started his professional free-lance illustration career while still in High School; and he has done a wide range of book covers, story illustrations, story boards, sculptures, comics, and videos; since that time.
A bit of a history nut, he has done his share of re-enacting as well. And lots of related photography, check out www.flickr.com/photos/douglasherring/sets for his eclectic collection of photos taken at SF conventions, Renaissance Faires, historical re-enactments, and the like.
