My name is CthulhuBob Lovely. (My Mom would say my name is Robert Lester Lovely.) Born 14 June 1962 in Abilene, Texas, I grew to adult age in Columbus, Ohio. Thankfully, I managed to avoid growing up. I currently live in Missoula, Montana with my beautiful wife, and I also have a son and two amazingly cool daughters.
Always a dreamer and very imaginative, I began playing Dungeons and Dragons at the age of 13. Prior to this, I had seen H.P. Lovecraft books in the collection of my older brother, Brian. When Call of Cthulhu was first published, I played with my friend Warren as Keeper. I immediately fell in love with the game, and the system, and have been running Call of Cthulhu ever since.
I and some friends run MisCon, a science fiction convention in Missoula, Montana. I also am very active in the Native American Community (‘cause I’m an Indian), helping to run Pow Wows and other cultural events. In my copious spare time I am a non-practicing attorney and a fledgling author and try desperately to not alienate at least a few of my friends and loved ones by keeping in touch with them on rare occasion . . . (I owe John Dalmas about a hundred Christmas cards).
I am currently running a Call of Cthulhu campaign which took me 26 years to write, due in part to the size of the campaign, but military service, child rearing and a decade in college also played their parts.
Meanwhile, I run Call of Cthulhu at several conventions -- mostly in the Northwest United States, but also at Origins in Columbus, Ohio.
An advocate for the positive effects gaming can have on math, reading and writing, and social interaction skills as well as family togetherness, I am on a quest to help make the Northwest Convention community a success and to promote the science fiction, fantasy, horror and related genre in the region. To this end I volunteer at various Northwest conventions, and am particularly known for my Call of Cthulhu games, hence the name CthulhuBob.
I also write stories. So far I have written 5 short stories, one piece of flash, various fragments, and am working on a zombie novel.
I hope to eventually become a successful writer, to play games forever, and to never grow up. So far, only one of these seems certain.
