Presenting:  A Cavalcade of Authors:

Read, Write, Imagine

Organized and sponsored by:

Michelle Lane – Library Media Specialist @ Enterprise Middle School, Richland SD

And

Friends of the Mid-Columbia Libraries / RADCON

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling like dew upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think   -   Lord Byron

Imagine yourself in middle school….you love to get lost in the pages of a book, you wish you could write like some of your favorite authors, the words of your story are just dying to get out, but you don’t even know where to begin.  Where does a writer get his or her ideas?  How does one find the discipline to write a book?   How does one paint the canvas of his imagination onto paper?  Imagine having the opportunity to have these very questions answered, in person, by the authors of books you’ve recently read!

Introducing:  The second annual “A Cavalcade of Authors:  Read, Write, Imagine” event.  Richland School District with the help of Friends of the Mid-Columbia Libraries and RADCON welcome this February, eight writers of young adult literature:  Royce Buckingham, Dia Calhoun, Patrick Carman, Brenda Cooper, Lorie Ann Grover, Ben Mikaelsen, Deborah Reber, and Suzanne Selfors.

On Friday, February 12th our authors will be providing an all day writing workshop at the Pasco Red Lion for students at Kennewick High School and for all students of the Richland middle and high schools who read books from four of the eight authors.  For every book finished, the student’s name is put in a drawing to win a prize donated by the author of the book completed.  If one book is read from each author, not only does the student gain attendance to the Cavalcade of Authors writing workshops, but he or she will win A Cavalcade of Author prize to later be announced.  Students, who qualify, will be excused from their daily classes and instead attend five 40 minute creative writing sessions each put on by a different author.  Following the workshop rotation, parents, students, sponsors, community members and authors will attend a luncheon together provided by RADCON in the Red Lion ball room with book sales, book signing and an author panel to follow.

If you would like to join us in promoting literacy in our community and would like to see the Cavalcade of Authors happen every year, we are looking for volunteers and sponsors to donate food, beverages, money for books and author expenses.  To join our team, please contact Michelle Lane at Enterprise Middle School by phone:  (509)967-6212 or by e-mail:  michelle.lane@rsd.edu.
